MJ Sandart CNE 2010

August 31, 2010

Based on amount of time spent, my favorite building is the Direct Energy Centre.  It is useful as a place to cool down on the hottest days, and always holds a wide variety of exhibits, shows, and shop-urtunities.  I was very disappointed to miss the Michael Jackson tribute, but thrilled to see his likeness carved into sand art.  One of the sand artists gave me very useful advise on the best camera setting to use.  To capture the image in it’s full glory, it was better to take flash-free pics.  No pictures could capture how the sand art made me feel, even though a picture is supposed to be worth a thousand words.  I have always envied artists that can transform nothing into something.  And make their hands do what their minds eye wills.  Even so, part of my inner child wanted to hop the barrier and plunge my tired feet into that sand…teeheehee.  I also found myself holding my breath along with a gathered throng of watchers. Why were we holding our breath?  We were gazing at the rock artist at work.  His patience was a marvel.  The crowd clapped when he stepped back from a successfully completed tower of balancing rocks.  My next stop was to pay homage to the Rock Legend memorabilia.  I got to see items from some of my favorite musicians and learned about some that were less familiar to me.  No visit to the Direct Energy building would be complete without a little shopping, and taking in a Super Dogs Show.
