I have learned quite a lot about the CNE this year in my six visits, I would like to share with you my top ten tips for going to the CNE next year:
/ Purchase your tickets early and online for best rates, and you will get EXpress entry into the gates! Just print them out at home and bring them with you.
/ Take the GO train to the CNE, it will let you off right beside the Food Building, it’s a lot easier than trying to squeeze in a streetcar or park near the Ex.
/ It’s impossible to see everything in one day, it’s a lot more fun to go to the CNE three times or more – as there is so much to see and do! Plan at least one day trip and one evening trip!
/ The earlier days at the CNE are not very busy at all, especially the weekdays, if you like going on a lot of rides, go on a weekday and get the Ride All Day pass as the lineups are very small.
/ The CNE is fun for all ages, there is a lot of information for planning your trip on the official CNE website: www.theex.com. Also follow the CNE Facebook group and Twitter feed to keep up with the latest news.
/ Wear good shoes, a sunhat, sunscreen, and dress comfortably. Don’t wear a dress if you plan on going on the rides! (I found this out the hard way – yikes!)
/ Take advantage of all of the FREE things at the CNE (that are included with the price of admission), there are free samples from assorted companies, a free cheese seminar, free events, concerts, horse shows, busker shows, free rides and activities in the Farm building, petting zoo, Air Show, garden show, sand sculptures, vendor demonstrations etc.
/ Bring a water bottle, and refill at the free water stations around the park. Also you may want to carry a few packs of Crystal Light drink mix with you to liven up your water – they have a new “Pure Fitness” brand that contains no artificial sweeteners or preservatives (eg. http://www.kraftrecipes.com/products/productinfodisplay.aspx?siteid=1&product=4300003359 )
/ Eat healthy – there are a lot of healthy food options at the Ex – that are SO yummy, such as roasted corn on the cob from vendors near the midway, Rotis with veggies from Island Foods, chicken dinners with veggies and rice from Bourbon St. Grill, freshly squeezed lemonade from assorted vendors throughout the grounds, real fruit smoothies from Booster Juice. Also, the portion sizes are very generous, so I actually split a few meals with my son.
/ Provide feedback – the organizers of the CNE love to hear from you – whether it’s commending them for all of their efforts, sharing favorite memories of your visit, or making suggestions for improvement, everyone has a unique perspective.
